Chemotherapy induced diarrohea and constipation

Gastrointestinal complications like diarrohea and constipation are common side effects of chemotherapy.
WHAT IF I GET DIARRHEA?
If you have diarrhea that continues for more than 24 hours or if you have pain and cramping along with it, visit your doctor. Do not take any anti-diarrhea medicine without asking your doctor.
To control diarrhea
1. Eat a smaller amount of food
2. Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol and sweets, milk products
3. Stay away from fried, greasy or spicy food.
4. Eat high fiber food like roti/rice, dal, cooked vegetables, fresh dried nuts/ fruits
5. Drink plenty of fluids to replenish the water loss along with potassium-rich foods like bananas and oranges.
IS CONSTIPATION COMMON?
Some people become constipated after chemotherapy. Check with your doctor if you have not had a bowel movement in two or more days.
To deal with constipation
1. Drink plenty of fluids to help loosen your bowels
2. Eat high fiber foods like bran, whole bread, cereals, cooked vegetables, fresh dried fruits, and nuts
3. Get some exercise.
